take me with you to the sea

A ONE PIECE FICATHON

→what's this?
Ficathons are for putting the readers and writers of a fandom in touch! Here you can leave a request for fic you want to see, which may then be filled by anyone; similarly, you can write fic for any existing request. It's low pressure, so you can leave prompts even if you don't write a fill, and fills can be of any length (so don't hesitate to fill a prompt even if all you've got in mind is a drabble!).

A
bsolutely anyone can participate. Anonymous commenting is on, so you don't need a dreamwidth account to join in, though you're more than welcome to make one or use an existing one (this is a good idea if you want to receive an e-mail notification if your prompt is filled). If you're also on tumblr/ao3/ff.net, linking to your primary internet presence is encouraged!

→rules
Any/all pairings, characters & genres are welcome!
One prompt per comment. No limit on comments.
Prompts should generally follow the following format:

(trigger, etc) warning(s), if applicable
character/pairing, prompt

Fills should be posted (either as inline text or linking elsewhere) as a comment response to the prompt, not in new threads.
You can write a fill for a prompt even if it's already been filled by someone else.
Warn for common triggers, be nice & have fun!

the (periodically updated) list of links to filled prompts can be found here!

Hi! REALLY short drabble on this prompt, I hope it works for you! If you have any more ideas on the subject I'd love to hear them - I may expand on this at some point... but for now this is all I have.

Luffy had a secret.

It had taken Zoro a while to figure it out, and even longer to figure out how everything worked out. He didn’t know how much the other crew members knew, only that they all had some idea, but because he’d been sailing with The Future Pirate King the longest Zoro took it upon himself to help out where he could.

Luffy didn’t need much help in the first place.

The longer Zoro stayed the more he wondered why he didn’t see it in the first place.
The longer Zoro stayed the more he realized just how good Luffy was at coping.

If he’d really paid attention (though really the shit cook was right – paying attention wasn’t Zoro’s strong suit), it was glaringly obvious. The way Luffy mispronounced people’s names, how he’d stay quiet in important conversations, how he’d play off tense situations by acting ignorant - he tried so hard to hide it. But even Zoro had figured it out by the time they’d crossed Reverse Mountain.

Zoro had never really confronted Luffy about it, and he didn’t think he needed to. Luffy was strong, that much was for certain, and he didn’t need other people messing in certain affairs. If Luffy could play it off to make other people comfortable than that was none of the First Mate’s business.

They’d come to a certain understanding in the end. Luffy would look to Zoro for certain cues: an open hand pressed to the chin then falling into the other hand, all good; one hand brushed up the opposite arm, slow down; two fists crossed at the wrists, fight. It wasn’t much, but it was enough.

Luffy wasn’t dumb. Luffy paid attention. Luffy was always exactly where he needed to be. Even deafness couldn’t stop him from hearing his namaka call his name.

OP here!

AWESOME. I can't actually believe someone filled this wow. I love love love that Luffy looks to Zoro for clues because yes Zoro can definitely read/understand Luffy enough to know what needs to be said. Or not said! Cause yeah, he wouldn't confront Luffy about it. He'd just accept it like he accepts everything else Luffy throws at him.

HMMM yes I liked it a lot! Thanks :) I can't say I have any other ideas for a deaf!Luffy, but maybe it'll be something to ponder in the future? :P

DAAANG!

HOT DAMN. I seriously DID NOT see that coming. After reading the last sentence, I went back and reread the whole thing again! This just never even crossed my mind! WOW.
